Glycerites
All of our glycerites are made by extracting herbs directly in vegetable glycerin. We do not first make an ethanolic extract then remove the ethanol, as this often damages the extract's quality. Glycerites are especially useful in situations where a patient cannot tolerate ethanol. Because glycerites have a sweet taste they offer the benefit of a more palatable medicine, particularly for children. Glycerites are a good addition to any herbal formula as they help to prevent polymerization and precipitation of certain constituents. When an herb has primarily water-soluble constituents, some physicians prefer glycerites over tinctures.
